Editor’s note: Hockey is not part of the Commonwealth Games 2026 programme in Glasgow. Along with wrestling, badminton, table tennis, squash and cricket, hockey was dropped after original host Victoria, Australia withdrew in 2023 over spiralling costs. Glasgow’s rescue plan reduced the Games to just 10 core sports held across four venues, and hockey, part of the Commonwealth Games since 1988, did not make the cut. There is no India men’s or women’s hockey competition, no hockey results, and no hockey medals to report at Glasgow 2026.
While there is no India women’s hockey competition at Glasgow 2026, the team has a rich Commonwealth Games history worth revisiting — much like the men’s team’s own Commonwealth Games story. India’s women first competed in hockey at the Commonwealth Games in 1998 and have featured in several editions since, building a loyal following at home even without a Commonwealth gold medal to their name.
At Birmingham 2022, the Indian women’s team competed hard through the group stages and knockouts as the sport drew large, passionate crowds; you can relive more of these highlights in India’s greatest Commonwealth Games hockey moments. With hockey absent from Glasgow 2026 and not currently scheduled to return until India hosts the Games in Ahmedabad in 2030, fans will need to follow the women’s team through other events such as the FIH Hockey Women’s Nations Cup and Asian Games.
