Hockey Medal Winners at Commonwealth Games 2026: The Real Story

Commonwealth Games 2026 will not crown any hockey medal winners, as the sport has been dropped from the Glasgow programme. Here's the full picture.

Editor’s note: Hockey is not part of the Commonwealth Games 2026 programme in Glasgow. Along with wrestling, badminton, table tennis, squash and cricket, hockey was dropped after original host Victoria, Australia withdrew in 2023 over spiralling costs. Glasgow’s rescue plan reduced the Games to just 10 core sports held across four venues, and hockey, part of the Commonwealth Games since 1988, did not make the cut. There is no India men’s or women’s hockey competition, no hockey results, and no hockey medals to report at Glasgow 2026.

There will be no hockey medal winners at Commonwealth Games 2026, as the sport was removed from the programme during Glasgow’s emergency, budget-driven redesign of the Games. This marks the first time since 1988 that hockey has been absent — see our full explainer on hockey results at CWG 2026 for more on the decision.

At the last edition in Birmingham 2022, India’s men’s hockey team won bronze, continuing the country’s long association with the sport at the Games; read more in our India men’s hockey team piece. With hockey excluded in 2026, that medal from Birmingham remains India’s most recent Commonwealth Games hockey result.
