India has sent a strong 14-member boxing contingent to the Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow, made up of seven men and seven women. The squad blends seasoned campaigners with fresh talent, all competing at Hall 5 of the Scottish Event Campus between July 24 and August 1.
The Women’s Squad
Leading the women’s team is Olympic medallist Lovlina Borgohain, competing in the 75kg category. She is joined by Sakshi Chaudhary (51kg), who earned her place by beating experienced trial rivals, Preeti Pawar (54kg), Jaismine Lamboria (57kg), Priya Ghanghas (60kg), Parveen Hooda (65kg), and Arundhati Choudhary (70kg). Several of these boxers already have Commonwealth Games or Asian Games experience, giving the team a strong medal foundation.
The Men’s Squad
On the men’s side, Jadumani Singh competes in the 55kg category, Sachin Siwach in 60kg, Aditya Pratap Singh in 65kg, Sumit Kundu in 70kg, Ankush Panghal in 80kg, Kapil Pokhariya in 90kg, and Narender Berwal in the super heavyweight (+90kg) division.
Why This Squad Matters
Lovlina Borgohain enters Glasgow as India’s most decorated boxer in the group, having already won medals at the Olympics and Asian Games. A Commonwealth Games medal would complete her collection across every major multi-sport event she is eligible for. Several other boxers, including Kapil Pokhariya and Narender Berwal, began their campaigns directly in the quarterfinals, meaning a single win guarantees them a podium finish.
India’s Boxing Legacy at the Games
Boxing has been part of the Commonwealth Games since the very first edition in 1930, and India has built a strong record in the sport over the decades, with 44 total medals including 11 gold. This year’s squad carries that legacy forward, aiming to add to the tally across 14 weight categories.
Following the Squad in Glasgow
With preliminary rounds completed by July 29, quarterfinals wrapped up on July 28 and 29, and semifinals scheduled for July 31, fans can track each boxer’s progress toward the gold medal bouts on August 1. Whichever boxers reach the final four are already assured of at least a bronze medal, so the coming days will be crucial for India’s overall medal count at Glasgow 2026.
