Cars are 100mm narrower, with a 200mm shorter wheelbase and a minimum weight cut by 30kg to 768kg, producing more agile machinery than the sport has seen in years. Active aerodynamics, controlled through new X-mode and Z-mode settings, have replaced the traditional DRS overtaking aid entirely.
New Manufacturers Join the Grid
Audi and Cadillac both entered Formula 1 in 2026, while Honda returned as Aston Martin’s exclusive power unit supplier after previously departing the sport. Renault, meanwhile, chose to shut down its engine programme after nearly 50 years rather than commit to the new regulations.
These sweeping changes have already reshaped the Formula 1 team rankings, with Mercedes emerging as the early pace-setter. The shift has also influenced strategy around Formula 1 Sprint races, where energy management now plays an even bigger role than before.
Enhanced Safety Standards
Beyond performance, 2026 brought tougher survival cell testing and a roll hoop strengthened to withstand 23 percent more load, alongside a redesigned front impact structure. These upgrades continue Formula 1’s steady push toward improved driver protection.
