CWG 2026 Athletics: Results, Medals and Top Performances

A historic javelin double for India, a distance double for Australia, and a shock elimination for a defending champion - here is how athletics unfolded at Glasgow 2026.

Athletics at Scotstoun Stadium delivered some of the defining moments of Glasgow 2026, with results ranging from career-best breakthroughs to genuine shocks.

Men’s javelin: a historic Indian double

Neeraj Chopra won silver with a season-best 85.83m, while Yash Vir Singh claimed a stunning bronze with a personal-best 85.41m on his final attempt – giving India its first-ever double podium finish in the event. Sri Lanka’s Rumesh Tharanga Pathirage took gold with an 89.75m career-best, while defending champion Arshad Nadeem of Pakistan failed to advance past the first cut, one of the biggest surprises of the Games.

Distance events

India’s Gulveer Singh became the first Indian track athlete to win two individual medals at a single Commonwealth Games, taking silver in the 10,000m and bronze in the 5000m. In the women’s 5000m, Australia’s Rose Davies out-kicked training partner Jessica Hull to win in 14:44.53, becoming the first woman in Commonwealth Games history to complete the 5000m-10,000m double.

Field events and decathlon

Praveen Chithravel won silver in the men’s triple jump, with Selva Prabhu Thirumaran taking bronze – another Indian one-two. Tejaswin Shankar made history separately, becoming India’s first-ever Commonwealth Games decathlon medallist.

Para athletics

India enjoyed a landmark Games in this discipline, with Dilip Mahadu Gavit winning gold in the men’s 100m T47 in a Games record time of 10.71 seconds, with Mohammed Basil M taking silver in the same event for an Indian one-two finish.

Collectively, athletics contributed heavily to India’s overall medal tally and to the standout individual performances of the Games, while Australia’s dominance on the track fed directly into their runaway win of the overall medal table. With the marathon and several other events still absent from the Commonwealth programme, athletics purists will be hoping for a fuller schedule when the Games return in 2030.
