Haaland and the 2026/27 Golden Boot Race

Haaland tops the early scoring charts and is a heavy favourite for a fourth Golden Boot, but Isak, Joao Pedro and Palmer are all in the conversation.

The Premier League Golden Boot has become less a race than a formality in recent years. The early weeks of 2026/27 suggest little has changed.

Where Things Stand

Haaland leads the scoring charts in the opening month of the campaign, having already found the net in the Manchester derby and against Bournemouth. Bookmakers have him at odds as short as 1.50 to claim the award again.

His Previous Wins

  • 2022/23: 36 goals, a Premier League single-season record
  • 2023/24: 27 goals
  • 2025/26: 27 goals

The Challengers

Liverpool’s Alexander Isak is the most cited rival, having started the season with three goals in his first three league outings after an injury-hit debut campaign at Anfield. We cover his situation in detail in our Isak update.

Chelsea’s Joao Pedro and Cole Palmer are also in the frame, with Palmer’s early output covered in our Chelsea form guide. Arsenal’s Kai Havertz has scored twice but from a low volume of chances, which makes a sustained challenge unlikely on current underlying numbers.

Why Haaland Remains the Benchmark

The gap is less about talent than supply. City create high-volume, high-quality chances, and Haaland converts them at a rate few in Europe match. Even in a derby where City barely attacked, he scored.

One Caveat

Golden Boot races turn on fitness. Haaland’s history of availability has been strong, but as our derby record piece shows, his numbers depend on playing time as much as finishing.
