Day 6 of the Commonwealth Games 2026, contested on July 29 in Glasgow, turned into one of India’s most memorable days of the Games, headlined by a Games record gold in para athletics and another silver medal in long jump.
Para athlete Dilip Mahadu Gavit produced the standout performance of the day, storming to gold in the men’s 100m T47 final with a Games record and season-best time of 10.71 seconds. His compatriot Mohammed Basil M followed close behind in 10.83 seconds to claim silver, completing a historic Indian 1-2 finish in the event. Gavit’s win came just years after he claimed India’s landmark 100th medal at the 2022 Asian Para Games and reached the final of the same event at the Paris 2024 Paralympics.
Long jumper Murali Sreeshankar added another medal to India’s tally, winning silver in the men’s long jump final with a best effort of 8.09m, marginally improving on his silver-winning jump at Birmingham 2022. He led the competition through the early rounds before Jamaica’s former world champion Tajay Gayle responded with 8.15m to take gold. It marked Sreeshankar’s second consecutive Commonwealth Games long jump silver.
There were near misses too. Manpreet Kaur finished fourth in the women’s shot put final with a best throw of 17.49m, narrowly missing out on bronze after Jamaica’s Lloydricia Cameron edged her out on a final-round throw. In para swimming, Suyash Jadhav also finished agonisingly close to the podium, placing fourth in the men’s 50m freestyle S7 final, just 0.3 seconds behind the bronze medallist.
In boxing, six Indian fighters, Sakshi Choudhary, Jaismine Lamboria, Arundhati Choudhary, Sachin Siwach, Ankush Panghal, and Narender Berwal, all won their quarterfinal bouts to reach the semifinals, guaranteeing India at least six more medals once those rounds are completed. In weightlifting, Sanjana’s campaign ended in disappointment after a DNF in the women’s 77kg event.
By the end of Day 6, India’s medal tally had climbed to 15, keeping the country inside the top 8 of the overall Commonwealth Games 2026 standings, with Australia continuing to dominate the top of the table. With Neeraj Chopra’s javelin campaign beginning the following day and six boxing medals already secured, India’s best days in Glasgow appeared to still be ahead as the Games entered their closing stretch.
