Commonwealth Games 2026: Young Indian Athletes to Watch

From a javelin debutant to a teenage boxing gold medallist, these are the young Indian athletes who broke through at Glasgow 2026.

Every Commonwealth Games throws up a new generation of names, and Glasgow 2026 was no different for India. With Ahmedabad 2030 now four years away, these are the athletes most likely to lead the next Indian charge.

Yash Vir Singh – javelin’s next big thing

Competing at his first Commonwealth Games, Yash Vir Singh smashed his own season’s best with a clutch, final-round throw of 85.41m to win bronze behind Neeraj Chopra’s silver. Training alongside Chopra has clearly rubbed off, and at just 42 centimetres behind his more experienced teammate, Singh looks ready to be a genuine medal threat in his own right by 2030.

India’s new boxing generation

India’s record seven boxing golds came from a mix of experience and youth, but Sakshi Chaudhary stood out as a fighter who beat established world champions on her way to the top of the podium – a result our reporting notes she’d already achieved once before, back home. Priya Ghanghas and Arundhati Choudhary also won their first major senior titles in Glasgow.

Gulveer Singh and the athletics pipeline

On the track, Gulveer Singh became the first Indian athlete to win two individual medals in track and field at a single Commonwealth Games, taking silver in the 10,000m and bronze in the 5000m. Decathlete Tejaswin Shankar also made history as India’s first-ever Commonwealth Games decathlon medallist.

Para athletics breaks new ground

Dilip Mahadu Gavit set a Games record of 10.71 seconds to win gold in the men’s 100m T47, part of a record-setting Games for para athletics that also included an Indian one-two with silver medallist Mohammed Basil M.

Keep an eye on all of these names between now and 2030 – by the time the Commonwealth Games returns to India, several could be genuine gold-medal favourites, and a few might even challenge the medal counts of the legendary Indian athletes who came before them.
