Medvedev rose two places to world No. 6 in the rankings published on September 14, with 3,770 points. He sits directly ahead of Flavio Cobolli in seventh and Frances Tiafoe in eighth.
The climb was partly circumstantial. Medvedev arrived in New York defending just 10 points after a chaotic five-set first-round loss to Benjamin Bonzi in 2025, meaning almost any result would improve his position.

He came through the early rounds without drama, including a straightforward 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 win over Arthur Rinderknech in the third round.

This is where the ranking matters most. Medvedev currently occupies the eighth and final qualifying place for the ATP Finals in Turin, roughly 300 points ahead of Taylor Fritz in tenth.
