India’s 11-member weightlifting squad, comprising six women and five men, has been one of the strongest performing groups at the Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow. Led by three-time Commonwealth Games champion Mirabai Chanu, the team continued India’s tradition of dominance in the sport, having topped the weightlifting medal table at both Gold Coast 2018 and Birmingham 2022.
Mirabai Chanu opened the tally with gold in the women’s 48kg category, becoming the first Indian weightlifter to win three consecutive Commonwealth Games titles — a feat explored further in our list of the best Indian weightlifters in history. Rishikanta Singh became the first able-bodied Indian medallist of the Games with a silver in the men’s 60kg category, setting a Games record in the snatch along the way.
Muthupandi Raja (men’s 65kg), Gyaneshwari Yadav (women’s 53kg), Valluri Ajaya Babu (men’s 79kg) and Harjinder Kaur (women’s 69kg) all added further silver medals, while Bindyarani Devi claimed bronze in the women’s 58kg category. Nirupama Devi narrowly missed the podium in the women’s 63kg event. See the complete medal-by-medal list for full details.
