One of the Premier League’s defining eras ended quietly this summer. Mohamed Salah is no longer a Liverpool player.
The Move
Salah signed a two-year contract with Turkish club Trabzonspor in August 2026, arriving in Istanbul as a free agent to be greeted by large crowds of supporters. The 34-year-old had been linked with the Saudi Pro League, Major League Soccer, Roma and Juventus before settling on Turkey.

A Difficult Final Season
The farewell was not the send-off many expected. Salah scored just 12 goals in a disappointing 2025/26 campaign, was dropped by then-manager Arne Slot, and had a public falling-out with the club before announcing in March that he would leave. A muscle injury late in the season meant his exit came during recovery rather than on the pitch.
Liverpool After Salah
The Reds have rebuilt around Andoni Iraola, who replaced Slot, and record signing Bradley Barcola from Paris Saint-Germain. Their attacking hopes now rest heavily on Alexander Isak.
The Legacy Question
