With the calendar year past its halfway point, several of women’s sport’s biggest finals are still ahead. Here’s what to circle.
This Month
The Women’s Africa Cup of Nations final is set for 16 August in Rabat, the culmination of a tournament that expanded to 16 teams for the first time and carries direct World Cup qualification stakes, as we cover in our biggest women’s football matches this month feature. The Hundred Women’s Competition also wraps up its finals weekend in mid-August, closing out a summer of franchise cricket across England.
Late Summer
- The TCS Sydney Marathon runs on 30 August, the newest addition to the seven-race World Marathon Majors series
- The Diamond League season concludes with its two-day final in Brussels on 4–5 September, where the top eight in track events and top six in field events battle for the Diamond Trophy
- The BMW Berlin Marathon follows on 27 September, historically one of the fastest courses in the majors series
Autumn on the Horizon
The Bank of America Chicago Marathon on 11 October and the TCS New York City Marathon on 1 November close out the World Marathon Majors calendar for the year, both detailed further in our World Marathon Majors guide. Basketball and hockey seasons will also be ramping back up through the autumn, setting the stage for a busy finish to the year.
Why It’s Worth Planning Ahead
Several of these finals — particularly WAFCON and the Diamond League — sell out well in advance given the record crowds we’ve already seen this year, a trend covered in full in our attendance records roundup. For the fuller picture of how these events fit into the season, see our international women’s championships calendar. Whichever final you prioritize, tickets and travel are worth locking in as early as possible this year.
